Pray for West Africa

Over the past two years, more than 2,000 people have lost their lives in Burkina Faso due to jihadist attacks, especially in the northern and eastern provinces, where more than 1,000 schools have closed and 1.5 million people have fled their homes. Now, this past Monday, a military coup overthrew the head of state, promising to bring the violence under control.

This is the third country in West Africa to undergo a coup in response to Islamic attacks in less than two years, after Mali’s two (August 2020 and May 2021) and Guinea’s five months ago. Niger also faces terrible slaughters by Islamic extremists.

Let’s pray for persecuted Christians in West Africa, for the many other peoples of that region in constant danger, for those who fight to protect; and also for terrorists to repent and surrender to the God of Love.

Lord, we ask You to please have mercy on this region. Be a Shield around every Christian. Give them courage and faith to share Your Good News and to love, serve and help those around them who are in danger. Pierce the darkness with Your Light through them and draw the lost to You. Grow Your church by the millions, as people turn to You as their Hope. Rise up, O God of Justice, and march in Your angel armies to push back evil and bring forth right. Rescue those in danger, and do it in a way they will know it is You. Perform signs and miracles and wonders to bring both terrorists and those who are terrorized to their knees before You. When they cry out to You to save them, answer them, O God. Show them the futility of evil and their need for a Savior. Trample every lie with Your Truth and set them free to run in Your good paths. May every jihadist meet You face-to-face, lay down their weapons of death, and surrender their lives to the Living God. Give leaders and soldiers wisdom, strength and courage to protect the innocent. Bring an end to the death with an awakening to new life through Christ. Yes, awaken the peoples of West Africa to You, Lord of All.
