Pray for Kazakhstan

Of the nearly 19 million people in Kazakhstan, roughly 14 million have yet to hear the Good News about Christ. Let’s pray for a great movement of God in this nation, torn apart this week by deadly protests.

“Kazakhstan’s government has steadily increased its control over religious expression in the country, which means increased surveillance, raids on church meetings and arrests. It uses the threat of militant Islam to restrict more freedoms,” says Open Doors, ranking the Central Asian country among the most dangerous in the world for Christians due to “dictatorial paranoia.”

Lord, as unrest grows in Kazakhstan, grow with it a hunger for You. Call them to Yourself, even amidst all the noise of unfair fuel costs and the many barriers against the knowledge of Your name. Have compassion on the lost, Jesus, for they are like sheep without a Shepherd. Matthew 9:36. We ask You especially for the 20 people groups that have no known Christians among them: the Tajik Afghan, Avar, Balkar, Chechen, Dargin, Dungan, Ingush, Eastern Yiddish-speaking Jews, Kalmyk-Oirat, Karachai, Karakalpak, Kumyk, Lak, Lezgin, Southern Pashtun, Domari Romani, Talysh, Turk, Meskhetian Turk, Northern Uzbek. We cry out to You, O God, to awaken the hearts of every person in all the 73 people groups of this Central Asian country. Get Your Word into their many languages. Open the internet so they can ask questions and find You. Bring Christians into their path to show them Your love. Meet them in their dreams and in visions. Talk to them throughout the day. Lord, You love every last one of these. You created them to know You, to feel Your great love for them, and to draw others to You through Your love in them. But so many have never heard Your Good News. They’re bound up by evil spirits and chains of fear. Don’t let them die without a clear understanding of who You are and the abundant life You offer them. John 10:10. O Jesus, please have mercy, for they have faced so much oppression and pain. Make a way where there seems to be no way and draw them to Yourself. Perform signs and miracles and wonders. Awaken them, Lord, to Your love. Lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as the You truly are. Pierce their darkness with Your light, and begin a mighty movement of Your Spirit, resulting in thousands coming to faith and many new churches planted. Run like wildfire through that country, awakening them to Your love in such a way that not the government, nor religious prejudice, nor language, no, nothing can separate them from knowing You. And watch over the Christians, please, O God. Be a Shield around them. Comfort them in their times of trouble, provide for all their need, protect them and their families from persecution and harm, and use them as bold witnesses for Your name’s sake, turning the lost to You.
