As we thank God this week for His blessings, let’s also thank Him for answered prayers for Afghanistan, for those who have been rescued from danger and for the courageous people who have been involved in those rescues. Most of these stories cannot be told publicly for security reasons, but here is one beautifully re-written from careful news reports.
A close friend of ours involved in ongoing efforts in that country asks for prayer for “the protection of human rights defenders, journalists and activists who are now potentially a target. Many have had death threats and are in hiding.”
Lord, we ask You, please, for the safe rescue of all who are still trapped within Afghanistan. Protect the innocent and those who are in harm’s way as they defend the rights and lives of others. Truly every life in that country is in danger, Lord. But more important even than their physical safety is their need for a Savior. Pursue every heart, Jesus, with Your love and truth, especially those bent on evil. Meet them in their dreams. Get up in their face. Show them Your grace. Give them such powerful encounters with You they fall to their knees in surrender.
