When this messy world is so up in your face, it’s hard to focus on eternal things, isn’t it?
For instance, a headache can take precedence over being loving and kind.
But a headache is temporal. It’s very real pain I have to go through right now, but it’s not going to follow me to heaven.
If I yell at my kids in my pain, even that sin is temporary because of what Jesus did for me. It’s not who I am in Christ. It’s just something to throw off so I can run faster toward the One Who is eternal. Hebrews 12:1-3.
But if I stop, SEE my kids, ask their forgiveness, and LOVE them, I’ve just stepped into the eternal. Because love is eternal. 1 Corinthians 13:13.
And so is repentance. 1 John 1:8-10, Psalm 103:12. When my heart is humble and broken over my sin down here on earth, in heaven my slate is wiped clean.
Lord, help us run this race such that when we get to heaven and the book of our life is opened, all that is written on the pages is how we loved. Matthew 22:37-40.
