Hurricane Ida is now at a Category 4 as it approaches landfall in Louisiana near New Orleans today, marking the 16th anniversary of Katrina’s destruction of that same city. Let’s continue to pray for those in its path.
Lord, we ask for Your protection for every person in the path of this storm. As we wait, prepare, and seek safety, speak to us in the midst of our anxious thoughts. Protect homes, businesses, and lives from harm. And please do it in a way that all will know it was You.
We ask You, Lord, to please calm the storm. But if You will not, then speak to us through it. Psalm 18. As we cry out to You, meet us, heal us, shelter us, change us, save us.
Father, as the people of Afghanistan face their own storm of violence and terror, as they desperately seek life and freedom, please, we ask You to rise up and fight for the defenseless. Place Christians in their path to love, help, comfort, and share Your Good News, so they will have hope, peace, and eternal life in the face of violence and death. Comfort those who grieve. Protect the innocent. Make a way of escape for those who are trapped. Shield and protect those who risk their lives to save others. And give a mighty song to Your faithful ones to sing to You wherever they are, as they face whatever they’re facing now. Overcome anger with forgiveness, fear with love, and death with Life.
As political storms rage in our nation and all across the world, as those in power make devastating decisions and those who oppose them are punished severely, Father, we ask for Your hand of justice, righteousness, and mercy to reign. Calm every storm, but if You do not, then meet us within that storm and transform us. For nothing happens that is out of Your control, and if You have allowed it, then it’s because You’re doing something in the midst of it. And no matter what else You are doing, You are always drawing us to Yourself. So, do that now, Lord. Every person. Reach into our hearts, speak to us in the midst of our storms, and save us. Set us free from the things that bind us to Satan’s purposes. Drive us to our knees in surrender to You. For only then will we find peace in the storm.
