I’m re-posting this today (originally posted on August 16), because the number of deaths is now over 2,189, with about 12,268 people injured, and dozens of people still missing. The 7.2 earthquake destroyed more than 7,000 homes and damaged more than 12,000, leaving about 30,000 families homeless, according to official estimates. Schools, offices and churches also were demolished or badly damaged. The Caribbean nation’s southwest region was the hardest hit. (Data from Fox News.)
Lord, such devastation all throughout the world right now. So many people hurting and in need of the love, comfort, and provision only You can give. Please pour out Your mercy on Haiti. Miraculously provide for every need, comfort those who have lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones. Do it in a way that they will know You did that. Protect women and children and the elderly and others who are vulnerable right now without the shelter of their homes. Guard them from harm or sickness. Bring Christians to show them Your love and speak hope into their hardship. Rescue those who are trapped. Heal those who are wounded. Love them in such powerful, visible ways that they know that they know You are the One who did that. Give every person such a deep hunger for You, O God, that when they hear Your Good News, they will know You are their answer, You are their Living Hope, You are the Life they’ve been longing for, and dive into Your open arms of eternal love to receive You as Savior.
