Broken for Our Sin

Today, on Maundy Thursday, we think on the Last Supper, the prophetic bread broken that night to symbolize how the Bread of Life would soon be broken. By this time, Judas had already chosen to betray His Master and Friend. The others would soon fall asleep, and then desert the Lord. And Peter, who promised never to deny Him, would do so three times.

How easy it is to say we love Him, and how easy also to deny Him. To slip into a crowd of people where we don’t want to stand out, and just be silent. And yet … oh, the beauty of grace … Soon after Christ’s resurrection, Peter, broken over his sin, rose up with passion to be used for His glory in some of the most amazing ways ever recorded.

Today, as we think on Christ’s sacrifice, let’s take a moment to ask the Lord:

  • What have I done that I still regret so tragically, there’s a fear deep within me that I can never truly be forgiven?
  • In what ways have I fallen asleep when You’ve called me to pray?
  • How have I been hiding my faith, or even denying You? In what areas of my life have I continued to look just like those around me who are not Your disciples?

It’s never too late to lay that sin at the foot of the cross, receive Christ’s forgiveness, and rise up in the power of Love to be used in mighty ways for His glory. Let’s ask Him today to make something beautiful of our brokenness.

If you know others who have fallen away from the Lord beneath the weight of their sin, thinking He can never use them again, let’s pray for God to give them courage to receive His forgiveness and let Him remake their lives into something beautiful for His glory.
