Sometimes, the hardships of life and the coldness of others can build up so many self-protective layers, we’re a bit like a tree in an ice storm. At some point, we break and fall apart, and no one around us is safe.
We have a Defender and Protector who is our Shield. But when we slip out from under His covering and try to do His job ourselves, we expose ourselves to all the more painful experiences. We’re just not powerful enough to protect ourselves from enemy attacks. We need Someone stronger.
Come back to Jesus. Let the warmth of His passionate love melt the coldness of your heart, until you remember what grace feels like and how life-giving it is to forgive. Ask Him to set you free from whatever strongholds (like self-protection, anger, unforgiveness, grudges, depression, pride, control) are keeping you from oneness with Christ and others.
And pray for those who are in pain from life’s circumstances, that they will long for Jesus’ love, and find safety under His covering. Psalm 91.
